Chapter Meeting - North of Earth to present Omegalodon - April 4, 6-9pm Bootlegger's Troy

At our April 4th meeting, Alex Allen from independent developer North of Earth will be presenting Omegalodon - a multiplayer game he developed from scratch in Unity about a giant monster shark attacking a city. 5 Copies of the game will be given away at the event.

This event is free to attend and open to All. Food and drinks can be ordered from the Bootleggers menu during the meeting.

The Global Game Jam starts in 50.5 hours! Tomorrow is the last day for discounted Online Registration. On Friday the price increases to $15 for walk-in registrations.

Albany IGDA Chapter Pre-GGJ Social: January 18 @ Bootleggers in Troy, NY

In preparation for the Global Game Jam, our January Chapter meeting will be featuring brief presentations on tools that will be available during the event, demos of games created from previous years, and an opportunity for members to socialize meet potential team mates for the Game Jam. This event will be from 6-9 PM on January 18th and is free and open to the public!

The Global Game Jam is returning for it's 4th year to Upstate NY. Join us on January 27-29th at SUNY Albany for 48 hours of game development. This annual event attracts over 6,500 developers in 44 countries. 1,500 games were created in 2011 with 14 of them coming from Albany, NY. Now - go sign up and save $5 off of the walk-in price!

RedCandy Games presents XBox Live indie game, 'TIC'

Thursday, October 20th is the next meeting. The event will take place at Bootleggers, 200 Broadway, Troy (same place as last month).

RedCandy Games is going to present their award winning XBox Live indie game, 'TIC'. They just won second prize in the Dream.Build.Play challenge.

Time: 6pm - 9pm (presentation starts at 7)
Date: Thursday, October 20th
Location: Bootleggers, 200 Broadway, Troy (in the backroom)

Food and drink can be ordered from the bar during this event. The chapter will not be sponsoring food.

Albany IGDA Chapter Meeting - Game Night - Sept, 21, 6-9pm Bootlegger's Troy

The Albany NY IGDA chapter is kicking off the fall with a Board Game Social night.

We're kicking off the fall with Board Game nigtht at Bootlegger's in Troy. Bring your board games and video games and ideas for future meetings. The chapter will be providing finger foods and Bootleggers has a full bar and dinner menu. Check out the attached image of the room, which includes 2 pool tables and a stage. Anyone interested in volunteering and helping to run the chapter, we are planning to have elections by the end of this year.

Albany IGDA invited to the GameFest & Symposium at RPI this Friday and Saturday (May 6-7)

The Annual GameFest and Symposium is happening at RPI tomorrow and Saturday and members of the local game dev community are invited to attend. Friday from 5-9 PM there will be a showcase of student projects including a table showing off the games developed at the 2011 Global Game Jam. Saturday will feature a full day of lectures and panel sessions (from 9:45 AM until 5:30 PM) including talks by esteemed game designers Lee Sheldon and Brian Reynolds and a panel session with local game industry entrepreneurs. This event is free and open to the public. More information including a detail schedule can be found on the GameFest 2011 Symposium and Exhibition website.

Pre-Global Game Jam Mixer!

In preparation for the Global Game Jam - we will be hosting a Pre-Global Game Jam Mixer at Crowne Plaza in downtown Albany on Tuesday, January 25th 6-9PM. This free event is a great opportunity for people who are planning to participate in the 2011 Global Game Jam (pre-register for the GGJ at the Albany GGJ Registration Page by Jan 23 for a $10 discount). We'll demo some games from previous years as well as give a rundown of some of the software available.

Fall 2010 Meeting with James Silva from Ska studios presenting "Big Old Indie Story"

Join us next week for our Fall 2010 meeting with indie developer James Silva from Ska Studios (based in Schenectady NY). Ska Studios is best known for its Xbox Live Arcade game The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai and Xbox Indie Game I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1. At the meeting James will be telling his "Big old indie story" and have demos of titles he has developed.

Health Games Challenge on May 21-23

 

The Albany Chapter is setting up a host location for the Health Games Challenge - a national game jam for creating games to promote healthy lifestyle in children. This event is in partnership with the US Department of Agriculture and in support of the Apps for Healthy Kids competition which was announced by Michelle Obama during GDC 2010.

We are hosting this event at the Troy Boys & Girls Club, 1700 Seventh Ave, Troy, NY 12180. The Boys & Girls Club has a free parking lot which can be entered at the back of the building along 6th Street.

Annual GameFest at RPI on May 11th


The 6th Annual RPI GameFest is coming up next week on May 11th from 5-9 PM at the EMPAC Building. This is a great opportunity to see inspiring experimental projects student teams have put together over the last school year. It is free and open to the public. Stop by the IGDA table during the event to see some of the games made at the Global Game Jam and also participate in a free raffle.

Global Game Jam 2010

This is the last weekend to pre-register for the Albany location of  Global Game Jam 2010!

Where: 

SUNY Albany will be the host site in Albany for the Second Annual Global Game Jam, from January 29th through January 31st, 2010. Other sites around the world will run game jams with similar rules and limitations, each starting in its own time zone. Theme & constraints for participants will be announced at 5:00pm on Friday, January 29, 2010.

November 2009 Social Night

Let's ensure November gets off to a great start with an Albany IGDA social night!
