Purpose of Position in Skillpoint Alliance
This position’s primary purpose is to mobilize and direct the Digital Media Council whose mission is as follows:
The Digital Media Council (DMC) supports and creates industry-led collaborations with educators and community
leaders to strategically advance the economic growth of the digital media and creative technology and design
industries of Central Texas. The systemic and long-term initiatives of the DMC provide educators and students, from
the middle school to the university level, with knowledge, resources, and skills relevant to these fields, in order to
cultivate a prepared and successful workforce, ensuring the continued security, expansion, and innovation of these
industries in our region.
Position Description
Under supervision of the Chief Operating Officer and with the assistance and support of the DMC industry chair, the
DMC Director coordinates a designated industry cluster and volunteer members in on-going and developing initiatives,
recruits new industry members for emerging initiatives in public-private partnerships, and works closely with
educational institutions to map industry-supported programs to education needs and direction.
Responsibilities:
Coordinates Industry Cluster and Volunteer Members:
♦ Convene DMC on quarterly basis in order to share community successes, alert to emerging initiatives, and
engage members in cluster activities.
♦ Convene employers, K-12 and post-secondary educators and community-based organizations with an interest
in targeted industries to help support, develop, and identify short and long term education and workforce
solutions. This may occur through the establishment of DMC subcommittees or special project teams which
manage specific initiatives.
♦ Develop and maintain the Industry Cluster through implementation of organizational charters, coordination
with Cluster chairs and partners, troubleshooting and administrative oversight of steering committee
structure.
♦ Generate correspondence with partners to facilitate communication within the industry cluster and between
the industry cluster and program partners.
♦ Visit program locations on a regular basis.
♦ Research, develop and coordinate DMC special events including but not limited to the Multi Media Exchange,
executive summits on regional issues, and recognition events for DMC members and recruitment.
♦ Work with Director of Marketing and DMC industry chair to increase visibility for the DMC and its initiatives in
the community, through means including press releases, public service announcements, a DMC specific
website, and sponsorship of or exhibition at local and regional events such as the Austin Game Developer’s
Conference.
Recruit New Industry Members:
♦ Network with industry cluster, associations, and chambers of commerce to identify new members as
appropriate to the DMC, based on its strategic goal to broadly represent the Central Texas digital media
community, including game development, filmmaking, audio production, web development, and e-learning
companies.
♦ Work with Events Director to recruit college and industry participation in annual Career Fair and to develop
industry support for other annual events organized by Skillpoint Alliance.
♦ Identify new areas for industry cluster growth and collaboration, including new partnering opportunities with
other nonprofit organizations and new program initiatives based on gaps in educator/industry needs that are
not currently being met.
♦ Work with Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Marketing on funding opportunities to support
activities and growth.
Cultivate on-going relationships with Education Partners and Community-based Organizations:
♦ Provide Educators and students with career awareness activities according to the goals of the DMC and based
on the protocol established by the DMC, including but not exclusive to industry guest speakers, corporate
tours, supplemental curriculum, and employer resources.
♦ Coordinate industry-relevant professional development in partnership with existing and emerging ISD and
postsecondary programs and in coordination with other Skillpoint Alliance initiatives.
♦ Attend community meetings with organizations including the International Game Developer’s Association –
Austin Chapter, the Texas Motion Picture Alliance, and the Austin Community College Video Game Seminar
Series in order to facilitate growth and communication within the Central Texas digital media community.
♦ Communicate regularly with partners including regional ISDs, Community Based organizations, and National
organizations.
♦ Remain up to date on regional, state, national, and international trends in the digital media industry and the
uses of digital media in education.
♦ Participate on steering committees for regional conferences and events as appropriate to meeting the goals of
the DMC.
♦ Participate in regional and national conferences concerning the above issues as funding permits.
♦ Other Duties as assigned
Location/Hours/Schedule
♦ Full-time, 40 hours work week
♦ SKILLPOINT ALLIANCE headquarters and other site locations school district administrative sites, classrooms,
community events, and business locations
Physical Demands
♦ Work is both sedentary and mobile (minimally), indoors mostly.
♦ In-town travel (mileage compensated) and OCCASIONAL out of town travel
Required Skills
♦ Ability to manage complex collaborations and projects supported and directed by these collaborations.
♦ Experience in developing and cultivating public private partnerships.
♦ Excellent communication skills including public speaking, meeting facilitation, and writing.
♦ Strong interpersonal skills, ability to motivate others, work with a variety of personalities, and teamwork.
♦ Ability to develop relationships across several different community sectors
Required Education / Experience
♦ Must have a B.A. or B.S.
♦ Must have experience in managing initiatives that require collaboration with other businesses or organizations.
Preferred
♦ Familiarity with current trends and needs in the Central Texas digital media industry
♦ Understanding of the multifaceted manner in which digital media creation and consumption currently impacts
education
♦ Recognition and respect for diversity of culture and background
Compensation
♦ Salary based on experience
Performance Expectations and Review
Performance reviews may be conducted annually, semi-annually, or quarterly. Areas of evaluation may include but
are not limited to:
♦ Success in carrying out duties as required by above job description
♦ Initiative in taking on new responsibilities
♦ Willingness to work in as a strong team member
♦ Ability to take guidance and supervision
