Ghostfire Games seeks Senior/Lead Programmer

A new startup located in Austin TX has a great opportunity for a Senior/Lead Programmer. This person would play a key role in building a downloadable game for the next-generation Wii console. The initial project will last approximately 6-9 months and will be developed by a team of approximately 4-5 people. There may be an opportunity for continuing work at the studio after the project is complete. This job is very rewarding since the project duration is short, and the role is important since the team is small. With that said, this job does require a lot of work and you will be held accountable for delivering quality code on-schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION (to include but not limited to)


  • Write, test and debug gameplay code for downloadable games for the Nintendo Wii
  • Help design the overall code architecture for the game
  • Develop code in one or more of the following areas:

    • Gameplay logic
    • User Input
    • GUI code
    • Special effects
    • Scripting
    • Level Design
    • Visual Effects

  • Assist or lead the programming of tools and utilities to optimize gameplay creation pipeline
  • Work with designers, producers and artists on implementation of new gameplay features
  • Willingness to work on the development task required for the project to succeed (within reason)
  • Write clear, commented, and maintainable code adhering to our code specification
  • Help interview future team members we hire

REQUIREMENTS


  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Several years of industry experience shipping game titles
  • In-depth knowledge of game development using C and C++
  • Experience with major source control systems
  • Strong object-oriented analysis and design skills
  • Proven ability to write commented code that others can easily understand
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude that uplifts the team
  • Strong leadership skills that can be demonstrated from work on past projects
  • Must be legally authorized or able to obtain legal authorization to work in the US. Sorry, we are not able to perform H1-B sponsorships.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong 3D math skills.
  • Ability to be comfortable working in a small startup environment which is fast-moving and ever-changing
  • Have a great work ethic, able to work on your own and be productive without others micromanaging
  • Willingness to be in the office to work during core working hours
  • References from team members and managers you have worked with in the past are required

STRONGLY PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:


  • Experience with the Torque engine
  • Experience developing on console games, especially Nintendo-based (Gamecube or Wii)
  • Experience with creating impressive graphical special effects
