Ghostfire Games seeks Senior/Lead Artist
A new, small startup located in Austin TX has a great opportunity for a Senior/Lead Artist. This person will play a key role in building a downloadable game for the next-generation Wii console. The initial project will last approximately 6-9 months and will be developed by a team of approximately 4-5 people. There will likely be an opportunity for continuing work at the studio after the project is complete. This job is very rewarding since the project duration is short, and the role is important since the team is small. You will have the opportunity to wear multiple hats. With that said, this job does require a lot of work and you will be held accountable for delivering quality art on-schedule.
JOB DESCRIPTION (to include but not limited to)
- Work on all aspects of the art for the game - create fantastic in-game art, character animations, rigs, menu art, models, and textures
- Set the artistic vision and art direction
- Create art asset pipeline
- Work with the technical staff to help determine asset size memory budgets, and guide art direction to stay within that budget
- Help create best-practices within the organization for creating fantastic art via a style guide and art bible
- Be involved in hiring process for rounding out the art team
- Coordinate with the producer to establish an art schedule, and be accountable for delivering to that schedule
- Willingness to work on the task required for the project to succeed (within reason)
REQUIREMENTS
- In-depth understanding of art creation software packages (Photoshop, Maya, 3DStudioMax)
- Ability to create quality art on a rapid schedule
- Multiple years of experience developing art for games
- Impressive demo reel
- A passion for creating and playing video games
- Experience with production processes and art asset pipelines
- Positive, team-oriented attitude that uplifts the team
- Strong leadership skills that can be demonstrated from work on past projects
- Must be legally authorized or able to obtain legal authorization to work in the US. Sorry, we are not able to perform H1-B sponsorships
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to be comfortable working in a small startup environment which is fast-moving and ever-changing
- Have a great work ethic, able to work on your own and be productive without others micromanaging
- Willingness to be in the office to work during core working hours
- References from team members and managers you have worked with in the past are required
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience developing art for console games, especially Gamecube or Wii
- Experience managing others
- Experience working at a small startup company
