Austin Community College seeks Lead Game Development Institute Technician

Reports to the Dean of Computer Studies & Advanced Technologies. Responsible for providing technical support and work flow direction for the Game Development Institute (GDI). Collaborates with faculty to identify, implement, and maintain game development tools, technologies, and processes relevant to student and faculty projects. Provides support and direction to students and staff in the gaming degree programs and in the incubator environment. Makes recommendations regarding game platforms, hardware, and software. Assists the Director in creating and maintaining successful relationships within the Austin game development community and GDI. Collaborates with faculty to maximize student skill development for GDI students. Coordinates and assists with implementation of industry standard tools and practices for game development practices. Assists and supports students, faculty and others to achieve project goals related to completion of GDI degrees and certificates. Maintains project documentation. Contributes as an integrated GDI team member. Other related duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARD

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required:

    Two years related work experience in a video/computer game design and development environment, or other related area. Required knowledge of game design, development and game systems as well as online game design and technologies. Required knowledge of one or more of the following specialties: Network/Server Architectures, 3D Graphics, Game Tools, or Artificial Intelligence. Skill in maintaining an established work schedule with occasional evenings and weekends. Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy. Effectively using organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail and follow through. Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials. Skill in playing and designing computer games. Skill in fostering communication across departments and working in a collaborative manner and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a team environment. Reliable milestone delivery and presentation. Skill in the maintenance of documentation, version control, and asset management and skill in reviewing web information to implement corrections and/or updates as required. Skill in overseeing the workflow of others. Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications, query and control languages, programming languages, and database systems plus specialized computer skills related to video/computer game design and development.

Preferred: Three years video game design experience.

EDUCATION

    Required: Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a field related to games development.

    Preferred: Bachelor's degree in related field.
