BioWare Austin is seeking candidates for the position of Character Artist to help deliver a high quality game to market. The Character Artist is an individual contributor on the art team. This position creates complex 3D models and textures under the direction of the Lead Character Artist.
BioWare, the newest member of the incredible family of EA studios, has created some of the world's best-selling titles including the award-winning Baldur's Gate™, Neverwinter Nights™ series, and Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic™. Original BioWare-created IPs include Jade Empire™ and the critically acclaimed, Mass Effect. BioWare is hard at work on the epic fantasy RPG Dragon Age™; Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood™ for the Nintendo DS™; and unannounced projects including a highly anticipated massively multiplayer online game.

Responsibilities
- Production of 3D character and creature assets for game.
- Assisting the lead character artist in the evaluation of tools and processes.
- Assisting the lead character artist in the management and review of externally created assets.
- Participates in the design of products and performs some testing.
- Works with designers, programmers and other personnel involved in the development of products.
- As directed, interacts with peers or managers in other units/teams/projects and/or vendors.
Experience and Qualifications
- Up to 3 years of experience modeling.
- Strong Z-Brush skills required.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is required.
- Time management and organizational skills are essential.
- Excellent attention to detail is essential.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
- Preference towards applicants that exhibit:
- Previous experience working on MMOs
- Technically savvy with strong problem solving skills.
- Proficient with 3DSMAX.
- Proficient with Z-Brush and/or Mudbox.
Portfolio Requirements
All portfolios must contain a detailed shot breakdown of the work. It must be very clear what you, the applicant, are responsible for in your reel, screenshots, scanned pictures, web page portfolio, etc. We would also like you to include your name in the subject line of your emailed application, as well as the competition number of the position(s) that you are applying for.

- Modeling, texturing, and lighting applied to character or creature assets
- Modeling, texturing, and lighting applied to interior architecture and design.
- Examples of the above in a low poly format.
- Modeling, texturing, applied to scene prop objects.
- Modeling, texturing, applied to the human figure, animals, or character designs.
- Unwrapped textures applied to buildings, characters, and organics.
- Effects animation both natural and fantastical.
- Various animations applied to ambient objects and characters.
- Traditional painting work
- Architectural rendering.
- Color work and examples of tonal coordination.
- Environmental design both interior and exterior.
- Figure drawing.
- Conceptual drawings applied to architecture, natural environments, props, etc.
- Technical drawing.
