BioWare Austin seeks Senior Game Designer

BioWare Austin is searching for talented Senior Game Designers. This is a senior role which will design and oversee the implementation of content for one of the core systems in game. You will partner with other game developers to ensure quality of product concept phase, to feature development, content creation and finished product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Lead Designer and is responsible for developing, creating and implementing various design elements into the game.
  • Partners with leads and project managers to drive the development of the design tools and pipeline.
  • Must have extensive experience with one or more game editors.
  • Practical 3D level building experience is a plus.
  • 3D Studio Max experience is a plus.
  • Experience balancing game systems is a plus.
  • Evaluates design documentation and identify risk areas and potential issues.
  • Evaluates playable builds and document issues with game play quality, difficulty, rewards, and balance.
  • Identifies risks with building critical game content and consequences to timely delivery of builds.
  • Reviews game levels, systems and events. Provide clear, organized written feedback.
  • Provides hands-on level creation to “teach by doing” and gain expertise in the design toolset.
  • Develops and creates fun game play that utilizes the characters and environments of the licensed product in a manner that is acceptable to the licensed product and overall game design.
  • Keeps abreast of new graphic techniques, trends and styles in the industry.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the house style document.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering required
  • 5-8 years experience in game design and game systems
  • Demonstrated experience shipping product at AAA level of quality in a design capacity role
  • Familiarity with the science fiction and fantasy genre and role-playing games is a must
  • Practical 3D level building experience preferred
  • Familiarity with C++
  • Proven ability to create game concepts Excellent documentation, verbal and written communication skills

How to apply

Send in an example design document – 10 pages or less in length. This design document should show your written communication skills and creative problem solving ability. It should showcase an implementation of a new system into a MMORPG game. Some examples of possible design documents:

  • Camera and control design
  • Mini-game design
