MOUNT ROYAL, NJ - April 30, 2010 - The International Game Developer's Association (IGDA) asserts that video games are a form of expression whether they're intended for entertainment, simulation or training. Like books, film, and television, games are capable of conveying many messages and many points of view.

Limiting forms of expression in video games limits the expression of game creators, which violates their constitutional rights to free speech in the United States and abroad as specified by Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from the United Nations.

IGDA Reorganizing Infrastructure, Bidding Farewell to Joshua Caulfield

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
IGDA Reorganizing Infrastructure, Bidding Farewell to Joshua Caulfield

San Francisco, California (July 23, 2010) - The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is continuing the reorganization of its infrastructure to better serve our members. Earlier this year the Board of Directors enacted a new committee system, to better focus on the primary needs of the organization. Each committee is chaired by a board member and they include Membership, Policy/Advocacy, Events/Sponsorship/Partners, Technology, Marketing/Communications, Special Interest Groups and Chapters.

Members-at-large and other directors also sit on these committees, allowing a broader base of game developers an opportunity to drive organization-wide efforts in these areas.

IGDA Perspectives Newsletter July 2010

Dear IGDA Members,

With the recent push on social games, the place of casual games has been put into question. Are casual games the hot thing anymore, or is social gaming the key to playability and profitability? Undoubtedly, we’re finding a space to merge the popularity of Massively Multiplayer Online games with the simplicity and ease of casual games through apps and sites such as Facebook. This month’s issue of the IGDA Perspectives Newsletter focuses on this dynamic shift but also on the tried and true practices of casual games development.

We would like to thank this month’s contributors, in order of appearance: Erin Robinson, Thomas H. Buscaglia, Jeff Spock, Tom Rassweiler, Jim Charne, Dave Rohrl, Liz Canacari, Jason Della Rocca, Nils Holger Henning, and Alla Khramtsova. As always, the IGDA Perspectives Newsletter is made by IGDA members for IGDA members.
