First off, my apologies for the long delay in posting a blog entry! It’s a habit that was quickly overshadowed by the many other priorities of this demanding role but I aim to get back on track with more regular communications.
And my ability to do so will be greatly enabled by the whole point of this post, which is to announce the expansion of the IGDA Staff! I am very pleased to be able to introduce Jillian Mood, the IGDA’s new Partner and Member Manager who officially started her position on 1 September, just in time to participate in the IGDA Leadership Summit in Seattle.
Jillian joins Tristin Hightower, who’s been serving in the Operations Manager role since early 2013. However, I’d like to also announce that in June, Tristin has been promoted to Director of Operations, to better reflect the far-reaching scope of her work and recognize her incredible ongoing contribution to the IGDA!
In this new PMR Manager role on the IGDA staff, Jillian will be chiefly responsible for supporting the needs of individual members as well as reaching out and maintaining strong relationships with the IGDA’s studio affiliates and partners. In this critical position, she will fundamentally help the IGDA better serve its membership base and improve our ongoing partnerships with companies throughout the industry. I’d like to give a huge thank you to Fiona Cherbak of Rocket Recruiting for the generous contribution of her time and expertise to help us recruit a great new team member!
So how does this affect the current staff structure, which has been in existence since I took on the Executive Director role in December 2012? The high-level focus for each role can be summarized as follows:
Executive Director: I focus on the high-level execution of the goals put forth by the IGDA’s Board of Directors, and drive the strategy and implementation of the goals. I also act as the primary spokesperson for the IGDA and focus heavily on industry-wide advocacy efforts.
Director of Operations: Tristin’s primary function is to keep the organization running from an infrastructure standpoint – from all our technology needs (including our websites, email lists, etc.) to standardization of practices across a wide range of tasks. She’s also responsible for the management of the IGDA’s internal communities, which are chiefly the Chapters and Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and will be their primary point of contact for carrying out their goals.
Partner & Member Relations Manager: Jillian will focus on supporting the wide range of needs of individual members, including account issues, benefit fulfillment/procurement, and so on. She’ll also be the key contact for the IGDA’s Studio Affiliates and Partners, helping us vastly improve our relationships with not only our members but with corporate partners, sponsors and supporters in the game industry and beyond.
In practice, the IGDA Staff will continue to forge ahead together as a small, agile team that always closely coordinates and collaborates on pretty much everything we do. As an example, for events like the IGDA Leadership Summit or our presence at GDC, the staff is “all in” to help the IGDA succeed!
This is a great opportunity for the IGDA to continue our upward trajectory and improve our ability to serve our membership as well as the industry at large. Jillian is an amazing addition to our staff that already includes the remarkable Tristin (as you all know!), and you’ll get a chance to know Jillian much better as she settles into her role.
I feel blessed to be able to serve the IGDA’s members alongside Tristin and Jillian; and I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Jillian on board! Stay tuned for a lot of great things rolling out in the near future; in many ways we’re still just getting started.
Thank you all for your continued encouragement and support!
