Addendum to Nonsense
A quick follow-on to my previous "history of nonsense" post, this new story about teen girls getting in trouble for building and spreading around Mario question blocks is mind boggling. Folks just need to chill out and take a break from their culture of fear. Sad. (Update: The girls will not be prosecuted.)
With all the nonsense going on, it is nice to see that more rational minds have prevailed in Michigan. Thankfully, the pending anti-game bill was shot down in court, with a pretty decisive ruling: games are expression, effect research is unconvincing, focus on only game media ineffective, etc
Finally, I forgot to mention how ironic is was that Eric Zimmerman was running his annual Game Design Challenge at GDC during the exact same time Leland Yee was condemning games as tools of corruption. Witness Harvey Smith of Midway Austin (with fellow challenger CliffyB) bask in the glory of his newly won "Nobel" design medal and tiara (photo courtesy of Evan Van Zelfden).
