Oct 3rd - 5th the return of the 48 hour game making challenge
Venue: the Glasshouse, CIP Kelvin Grove + online
We challenge you to produce a playable prototype game for the chance to win fame and fortune … but you only have 48 hours and we’re locking you in!
Join us for the sheer delight and lunacy that underpins the games industry! Find a small team (maximum of 6 people) and take the challenge to produce a prototype game in just 48 hours, starting 4pm Friday 3 October
Do you have a team but can't get to brisbane: contact truna to see if you can set up a sattelite .... you will need to provide your own space and webcam etc
we provide:
- space, power and network connectivity*
- chairs, tables and basic power access
- rest space with lovely blow up mattresses
- access to a hot shower
- some basic snacks and preparation facilities (fridge, microwave, hot water etc)
- a sunday sausage sizzle for teams while the judges are judging
- love and a fabulous on-site techie
- a live blog and web cam streaming so your friends can watch
* there will be a couple of provided computers but these will be for the web cams and judges and general use
you need to provide:
- your own machines and peripherals, extra power blocks and cables always recommended (network hubs recommended for sharing files between group members)
- your own software (see rules)
- your own bedding (if you actually sleep of course!)
- your energy and imagination
Sign-up:
- gather your team
- send an email to truna with the following details
- team members full names
- contact details for team liaison (email, phone)
- team name and logo (if you have one)
- member bios - just a few words so we can give you a 48hour blog profile (and team images if you can - photos of members - for publicity - sending this in is considered a 'release for publicity purpose')
- probable development engine - environment
discussions and team forming are currently taking place over on the brisbane igda forums
confirm a team: email truna AT acid dot net dot au Rules:
- all entered games must be made within the 48 hour period
- all entered games must exploit the three keywords given out at the start of the challenge
- games can be made in anything as long as there is NO ABSOLUTE LICENSE (ie no mods that require another game to run)
- team members are allowed one exit pass at a time (with a 0.5 extra in case someone needs to dash out for food or a shower of course)
- games and assets must be entrant's own original work
- judges decision is final
- winner will be announced after the sausage sizzle on Sunday
- entries remain entrants property but gameOn reserves the right use to entries for publicity
Judges:
Currently confirmed: John Passfield (Snr Game Designer, Pandemic) and Gordon Moyes (Exec Producer, Krome Studios)
Judging criteria:
- exploitation of KEYWORDS
- innovation
- play - fun
- aesthetic [including audio]
- technique [incl programming etc]
- functionality
Prizes:
- undying love and kudos, profile and experience
- spectacular gameOn mugs
- game vouchers
- and winning game presented at GCAP (details under negotiation)
