Meeting Report

Hunter: The Reckoning, the teddy bear revolts!
June 2002
by Teresa Stankiewicz

Our June meeting was a "Hunter: The Reckoning" review and extravaganza! The High Voltage team demonstrated their latest game. There was plenty of hands-on playing time as Jesse & Eric, producer and artist, gave a description of High Voltage, a little history and then launched into the challenges of creating this game. Chigdas had lots of questions running the gammit:

How do you sell your game?
How do you get contracts?
Do publishers come to you or do you go to them?
What language do you program in?
What tools do artists use?
What should a wannabe game artist study? Should they get a degree?
How does an artist or programmer apply for a job?
What are you looking for when hiring a programmer or artist?
Does anybody want to be a producer?

Some Chigdas were talented enough to play the game and ask questions at the same time (other than “How do I kill that guy?”), There were plenty more questions with all the High Voltage guys talking from artists to programmers to the President. Yeah, we got to torture the President! Of course, we all dumped on the producers, isn’t that what they’re for? The Illinois Institute of Art at Schaumberg brought in great pizzas and drinks. Many thanks to them for sponsoring this one. High Voltage gave away key chains and two cool T-shirts! So what does a teddy bear have to do with the game? Play and find out!

This was a very informative meeting and everyone from the curious to the professional got their questions answered.
