Meeting Report
MechAssault Cradle to Grave
October 22, 2002
by Carrie Gale
Our Chicago IGDA Chapter meetings keep growing larger every month!
Over 75 people met at Red Eye Studios on Tuesday, October 22 in Chicago for a fantastic presentation by Denny Thorley, President of Day 1 Studios. Denny discussed the process of making their game, MechAssault, from the beginning stages of development, through mid-project revisions, to its release this month. Denny expressed the importance of creating a mock version of the game early on to establish a vision for the project, and the deviations they had to make from their original prototype in order to successfully complete the game.
Following Denny Thorley were two great presentations by Red Eye Studios and Discreet. First, Red Eye Studios demonstrated their Motion Capture System, followed by a demo of the new features in Discreet's Character Studio 4.0 by Adam Holmes. Food and drinks were provided by The Illinois Institute of Art in support of their new Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Game Art & Design. For more information on the Game Art & Design program go to www.ilic.artinstitutes.edu. Pictures from Tuesday's event should be posted soon.
