SIGGRAPH 2004

by Rudy Geronimo

On August 10th, 2004, the IGDA hosted its second Game Developers Birds of a Feather gathering at this year’s SIGGRAPH in Los Angeles, California.

Hosted at the Holiday Inn City Center, roughly 70 developers and students took a break from the convention (and the Southern California heat) for some food, cold drinks, and numerous round-table discussions. Attendees discussed the challenges of finding resources for independent game development, the need for gender equality in the industry, the pros and cons of outsourcing talent, and IP rights.

The crowd was a lively, friendly gathering, with members and non-members flying in from Arkansas to Finland. Conversations ran longer than expected, extending the event for almost an extra hour. Thanks to all who attended — here’s to next year’s BoF!
