C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures lays off 125, hurt by strong loonie, failed quest for provincial financial support

C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, a downtown Toronto digital effects and animation firm, has closed its doors and laid off 125 staff after failing to get provincial government support.

Karen Thorne-Stone, chief executive of the Ontario Media Development Corp., mourned C.O.R.E.'s shutdown.

"There's no question C.O.R.E. was an anchor company in Ontario," she said in an interview.
