It's Global Game Jam time again. Obviously these Jams can be a lot of fun for the participants and a good way to make connections. But every year I read posts like this:

And I can't help thinking that we've shot ourselves in the foot. Again.

Would it be possible to get the official working hours for these Jams limited to something sensible?

Also, as a teacher I am now impacted indirectly because those of my students attending the Jam have been allowed more time to hand in their coursework, which means I have less time to mark it. I think it would be better for teachers everywhere if these Jams were held outside of term time. And maybe, if they were held on or around public holidays, there might be a chance that more working developers might have the time and energy to lend a hand.
