NCsoft West is Looking for MMO and Fantasy loving Contract Content Writers
NCsoft West is a division of Korean online game powerhouse NCsoft and holds operating responsibilities for North America, Europe, South America, and Australia/New Zealand. With its game development studios on the North American West Coast and professional publishing organization in Seattle, NCsoft West delivers some of the top MMO franchises to the gaming public, including City of Heroes®, Guild Wars®, the company’s flagship franchises, Lineage® and Lineage II, and the recently released blockbuster, Aion™.
Our Seattle headquarters houses some of the industry’s top publishing talent in a fast-paced, open-concept environment. Located in the heart of Seattle’s downtown, key organizations within the Seattle headquarters include executive management, sales, marketing, public relations, web and creative services, as well as operations, finance, and human resources.
The Contract Content Writer role requires close cooperation with several other teams within and outside NCsoft, including the QA, Production and Community teams in Seattle, as well as third party groups around the world. The Content Writer will be in charge of technical and non technical writing, proofreading, editing and testing of assets provided by the Localization Manager, Project Managers and Senior Writer.
Services offered by the Content Writer are not limited to the written language and might include other areas of content creation, i.e. voice-over testing. Success in this role relies on an ability to think on your feet, coupled with a passion for writing and a good knowledge of the western gaming market, particularly MMO’s.
Content duties
• Writing high quality and consistent content for in-game quests and stories, printed materials, websites, marketing assignments, community projects, FAQs, voice-over scripts and more.
• Delivering projects in a timely manner.
• Utilizing literary skills to develop background lore, themes and storylines while ensuring game characters and plots are believable and interesting to its target audience.
• Proofreading/editing work by other writers to maintain consistency in tone and quality of writing.
Localization duties
• Working with QA to Identify and solve translation and writing related issues (i.e. bugs) during test sessions. Browses various product-related forums, websites, and QA applications looking for errors posted by QA testers or external players.
• Working with the localization team to ensure 3rd party translators are fully aware of meaning in any ambiguous areas.
Internal communication
• Liaising with all internal teams regarding planned activity, events and other content requirements.
Research and development
• Regularly finding and researching new developments in web content and Web 2.0.
• Brainstorming on new content ideas with other members of the Game Production Studio.
