You Can Help Me Break In!
I have been trying to get a job in the video game industry for more than half a year now and I have applied for numerous positions ranging from: internships, quality assurance, junior design, senior design, design, writing, coding, etc... To this date I have had very little response - if any interest at all in me. I would wager this is probably because of the economy and the fact I am competing with a lot of unemployed people who have had more experience in the gaming industry than me. Despite this I continue to learn more and improve my skills and portfolio.
I came upon an opportunity recently that may change this and give me a chance to finally get my foot in the door to do what I’m so passionate about and this is where your help and support will come in. Sony is offering the chance at a starting quality assurance position to the winner of a contest they are holding.
I am taking every opportunity I can and this is one of them. I would appreciate any support I could get in votes for it and you can vote once every day. Right now the contest seems to have devolved into one of popularity and who can post the dirtiest picture to attract votes. Unfortunately, a lot of people deserving of votes are being kicked out of the top 75 (needed to advance to round 3) because of this and I'm one of them.
I really could use the support and your votes.

You can vote once a day and I really would appreciate it if you guys could vote every day. I'm not far behind from being within the safe zone once again and when round 3 starts voters are required to have access to the Playstation Network so that should get some of the people who are posting for the sake of attention from getting votes.
I really want this job as I think it would be a fantastic way to learn the industry in and out. I've gone as far as to offer to work for free for the first month and relocate on my own time for QA positions in the past and still haven't heard back from anyone. I cannot even begin to tell yo how frustrating this is to me especially as I have done so much work and improved myself a lot in the past year. If I got this job I'd continue to work on my own and practice my skills in what spare time I have now I'd just be able to learn more on the inside as well as save up for GDC.
I've done work for David Perry which netted me a letter of recommendation.
I'm teaching myself C++ and I find it extremely exhilarating every time I get it to work and I'm even making sure it comment my work!
I write reviews the online magazine Game Theory
I'm working on an inde game project with a group of talented people.
I'm obviously an active member of my local IGDA Wisconsin Chapter.
I've read almost every page on Tom Sloper's website
I'm an active participant in webinars on almost every field.
I'm taking online classes hosted by great people like Ian Schreiber.
The contest would let me meet some fascinating people if I got in and at the very least I would hope to net an internship out of it. I'm at the point right now where I welcome the thought a 60+ hour work week.
So please vote for me and tell everyone you know to vote for me every day!
Thank you,
-Robert Polzin.
