SIGs: Serious Games

Displaying SSG1.png

Despite the rapid growth of the games industry - and increasing interest from governmental agencies, universities, and such harnessing the power of games for change, education, or advocacy - there remains a startling lack of crossover between entertainment-centric and more "seriousgames with regards to lessons in design and interactivity, as well as a lack of recognition of how wide the scope of Serious Games are.

The Serious Games SIG serves as a focal point for discussion and debate on Serious Games for developers, academics, and others with an interest in the field on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Best practices - creative, pedagogical, legal - for creating and framing Serious Games
  • Lessons from the industry at large
  • Opportunities and challenges in the field
  • What constitutes a "Serious Game"?

We're involved in projects and events going on all around the world, from game jams to IGDA webinars, from conferences to game preservation projects, from hosting design workshops to bringing together communities of researchers and practitioners for the common good.

Want to join us in our mission to help define what Serious Games are and the future of our growing industry? Contact us and learn more about opportunities, both global and local to you!
