Twas
a cold, stormy, Tuesday night when the games dev populace of Guildford
descended on Bar Med for the latest IGDA Guildford Chapter event. The drinks
started flowing at 7:30pm, happily and gratefully paid for by event sponsors
Perforce, and the newly appointed Guildford Chapter Committee where introduced
to the masses. Then the congregation mingled, chatted, drank and networked the
night away, eagerly awaiting the evening’s presentation of the new Sony PSP. It
did not disappoint.
Although
competing against a backdrop of Arsenal vs Sheffield United on various TVs
positioned around the bar, the PSP won through, and Sony’s George Bain wowed
the crowd with his presentation of what it can do. Sensing the crowds itchy
trigger fingers, George then let 2 of Sony’s shiny handhelds loose into the
audience where 2 player, wireless, games of Ridge Racer finally overtook
peoples desires to make just one more trip to the bar…
But
it wasn’t just all booze and PSP playage. Perforce weren’t just buying the
drinks but were also demonstrating their knew software, P4GT, and offering
beta-test copies of Perforce 2005.1. And, once the Guildford Chapter Committee
members had been introduced to the crowd, we were on hand to answer IGDA
related questions and take down ideas from people for discussions and
presentations at future events.
A good night was had by all and we’re all looking forward to seeing everyone at the next event!
