Guildford
"GGDev" Chapter
Summary & Pictography - September '01
The Gift of Vocal Chords
by Ben Board, Dogfish Entertainment
The inaugural meeting for GGDev, the Guildford chapter of the IGDA, on Thursday 20th September 2001 was a great success!
Turnout was in the region of sixty people, all packed into the Powerhouse in Guildford to hear Criterion talk about their new middleware solution, Renderware Audio (although ironically, the acoustics of the room conspired against us and not everyone could hear perfectly) - it's available on PS2 now, and shortly on PC and Xbox. The concept of a free bar was one that GGDevsters adjusted to easily (and more and more easily as the evening progressed) - and reports are emerging of proprietors of local curry houses arriving at work in Ferraris. Needless to say, the following day was a quiet one in the Guildford game development community. And of course it was a great opportunity to put faces to mailing list names, and to talk to people using The Gift of Vocal Chords rather than by The Power of Yahoo.
Thanks to Chris and Michelle
at Criterion for organising it, and Stewart for giving the presentation. Next
one is in early stages of organisation but current plan looks very interesting...

Pictography
(sorry, but only found batteries for my camera midway into the event...)

In a cunning promotional move, the Criterion/IGDA banner was mounted by the
bar.
