Frequently Asked Questions

What's IGDA, and who is behind it?

International Game Developers Association is the independent, non-profit association established by game developers to foster the creation of a worldwide game development community. The IGDA’s mission is to build a community of game developers which leverages the expertise of our members for the betterment of the industry and the development of the art form.

To read all about the endeavours of the IGDA, please check out the main site at www.igda.org

Who runs these IGDA Chapters?

Chapters are coordinated by several members of the local game develpoment industry.

Everyone in the council works as volunteer, and are not on IGDA's payroll. We try to get as many people from different companies on board in order to get a balanced composition.

What activities do you organize?

We have meetings for anyone who's interested in game development. Sometimes we have very detailed, almost workshop-like, lectures and sometimes we do PostMortems or presentations of new releases, companies or tools. Just about anything that would interest a game developer.

Usually things are kept really very informal and casual at meetings, so it's also a great way to get to meet and know colleagues.

How much does it cost to get in?

The meetings are free for all who are interested, but please tell us that you will come, and how many people you will bring along.

Why should I become an IGDA member?

There are many reasons why membership is really interesting, and you can find them all at the IGDA membership benefits page.

We'd like to emphasize some benefits that are really special:

  • free subscription to Game Developer magazine
  • discounts on computer books, conferences and software
  • students only pay $ 35 a year
  • by becoming a member you not only support IGDA as an organization, but also you help making the chapter meetings possible and keeping them free of entry fee (it's the best way to show your appreciation).

Also, IGDA is working on some great features to get yourself noticed. We're thinking about a profile system where a member can display personal data.

I/my team/my company would like to give a presentation of our product/technology/concept

Great! That's always worth mentioning to the chapter coordinators. We're all about community building, and a great part of that is showing what everyone is working on. Chapter meetings are a great platform to show off your work, and such contributions are very welcome.
