Petition -- UPDATEThe Hamburg senate has issued a economic programme to support the game industry in our city.Starting from October 2006, game developers based in Hamburg can apply for government support of up to 100.000 Euros for the development of a game prototype. Read the official announcement. (in German)
Chapter Meeting 20-July-2006Dear game-making community, here's a short round-up of yesterday's beach barbecue to celebrate the 3-year anniversary of the Hamburg Chapter. The barbecue took place near the "Strandperle" bar at Hamburg Elbstrand. Road access to our original spot was unexpectedly blocked so we had to move 200 meters eastward to a new spot. This caused some confusion and running about. Fortunately, our volunteer scouts (Malte and Reinhard from Gambas) where able to pick most people up and take them to the new spot. In case some people got lost and didn't get through to us -- our apologies to you! From there on, all went well and the grill was sizzling delightfully. We experienced a radical change of weather at 21:00. After weeks of uninterrupted sunshine and the hottest day since 2003, it seems the thunder god was fed up with all the heat and wanted to test his lightning and rain-making skills. Fortunately, game developers are a tough breed, so the event continued despite the summer drizzle. Quite a few reasons to make the next chapter meeting an indoor event again, but a nice get-together nevertheless! Thanks to all who attended, it was great meeting you, we hope you liked the barbecue and we're looking forward to see you at the next chapter meeting! Special thanks to the organizer team and everyone who helped!
PetitionThe city-state of Hamburg is home to many game development companies and individuals. Government officials and politicians are inreasingly recognizing the importance and potential of this industry branch.IGDA volunteer Michael Molkenthin is in discussions with members of the Hamburg senate in regard to how the senate could actively support the games industry in our city. You can support Michael's valuable efforts! He is conducting a petition to gather signatures and feedback from games industry people in the Hamburg area. Please see the links below for details.
Chapter Meeting 16-Mar-2006Another very enjoyable and stimulating evening in the tradition of last year's meetings. There were some minor troubles with the chair set-up and beamer but it didn't keep anyone from drinking until midnight. ;)Replay Studios presented a highly informative and very entertaining Post Mortem of their game "CRASHDAY" that was recently released through Atari. Many thanks to Replay's team and especially Development Director Robert Clemens for sharing their experience and insights! Michael Molkenthin gave an update regarding the political initiative that was started last fall. Make sure you get involved in the public discussion! Pixon was so kind to provide free snacks. Thanks Dieter!
