IGDA Hires Gordon Bellamy as Acting Executive Director; Brian Robbins Elected Chair of Board of Directors

MOUNT ROYAL, NJ - August 18, 2010 - The IGDA today announced that Gordon Bellamy, Chair of the Board of Directors and former Executive Director at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, has been appointed acting Executive Director of the association effective immediately. Bellamy is a 17-year veteran of the industry and has served on the IGDA Board of Directors since 2009.
"I'm deeply excited to have this opportunity to better help game developers. Serving our members by growing a strong, vibrant community and providing them with the resources they need to succeed is what this organization is all about," said Bellamy.
"There is a lot to look forward to with preparations for the upcoming IGDA Leadership Forum, Global Game Jam and the many events of our chapters and Special Interest Groups well underway," he added.
In a special meeting of the Board of Directors last week, Brian Robbins was elected to replace Bellamy as Chair of the Board. "I have been a long time supporter and believer of the IGDA's mission and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to serve our members as chair," said Robbins. "Gordon has done an outstanding job as chair and we appreciate his dedication. I look forward to working with him as Acting Executive Director."
The Board of Directors is currently overseeing the process of identifying and selecting a permanent Executive Director. They are also working to fill several interim positions created to better serve their membership: Operations Manager, Internal Community Manager, and External Community Manager.
Former Executive Director, Joshua Caulfield, announced his amicable departure from the organization in July to pursue an opportunity with the American Institute of Architecture Students.
About Gordon Bellamy
Gordon Bellamy has served as the Chair of the IGDA Board of Directors since 2009. He formerly served as Executive Director for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, and worked in business and product development roles at MTV Networks, Electronic Arts, THQ, and Activision subsidiary, Z-AXIS.He earned a BA degree from Harvard College in engineering, where he was also a John Harvard scholar and an AT&T/Bell Labs Engineering scholar.
