0.0 A word from the Chairman
============================
Dear IGDA Friends and Members,
This year's Game Developers Conference looks to be one of our
association's best. We've planned a number of activities for you to
participate in as a member of the IGDA.
A complete list of activities follows. There are three notices and events
I'd like to highlight:
- The ongoing ratification is going very well. If you've received your
voting card and haven't yet turned it in, be sure to return your vote ASAP!
This year's Game Developers Choice Awards is your opportunity to get
Your voice heard on who really contributes to games as a leading form of
art and entertainment.
Be sure to participate in our Annual Meeting, where you'll get a chance
to meet with the IGDA board, other members, and hear from this year's
candidates for election.
See you at GDC!
Alex Jarett
Chairman, IGDA

1 Newsworthy Items
==================
1.1 IGDA @ GDC: wazzup?!
------------------------
* IGDA Annual Meeting
Friday, March 23rd - 1:30-3:00pm
Room A3
The IGDA's board of directors and executive management will take this time
to give developers a rundown of the association's progress over the past
year, as well as indicate what's in store for the coming year. This will
also be the time when new board candidates will be presented. There will be
a Q&A period to get feedback and input from the community.
* IGDA sessions
The IGDA is pleased to present a full load of sessions throughout the GDC
Classic Conference. As a reflection of the IGDA's mission, the sessions
will address the most relevant issues affecting the developer community
today: areas of public debate and concern; establishing local development
communities to keep the association close to where you live and work;
facilitating peer-to-peer networking and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, we
are offering a means by which you can get involved - nearly all sessions
are directly linked to committee work, outreach efforts or the like, where
your contribution and input is extremely valued.
* Hospitality Suite Night
Thursday, March 22rd - 8:30-10:30pm
Paseo Room, Fairmont Hotel
The IGDA will be hosting a Suite Night party! Yeah! Come to meet & greet
the Game Developers Choice Awards nominees, the IGDA board of directors,
and the board of director hopefuls. Beer, wine and munchies for all!
* Game Developers Choice Awards
Friday, March 23rd - 7:30-9:30pm
Civic Auditorium
..see details in the "Current Events" section below.
* Express Members-Only Check-In!
Please note that there will be an "express" registration desk that IGDA
members can use to get into the conference fast. No more waiting in those
crazy long lines! Just look for the express IGDA desk in the lobby of the
San Jose Convention Center. :)
* Other stuff
Additionally, the IGDA will have a Developer Lounge equipped with
comfy sofas and a water cooler. Stop by to rest your feet and chill out with
the IGDA crew and other GDC attendees. Also, the IGDA is sponsoring the
GameRoom for those who want to avoid all the noise of the parties and enjoy
a game or two. And we are also a sponsor of the Independent Games Festival
- be sure to check it out!
