Ireland Chapter |
Welcome to the Irish Chapter of the IGDA!
This chapter aims at promoting community between developers in Ireland, both North & South, by means of regular meetings & events. The chapter was founded in November 2003.
Membership in the IGDA is strongly encouraged but is not a requirement for attending the meetings.
The inaugural Chapter meeting is to be held on January
8th, at 7pm in The Digital Hub, Dublin.
Renowned game designer and founder of the IGDA, Ernest Adams,
will speak at the event.
The work of the IGDA in Ireland is being supported by The Digital Hub in conjunction with Diageo Ireland through the Liberties Learning Initiative and Enterprise Ireland.
Philip Flynn, Chief Executive Officer, The Digital Hub, said:"One of the central aims of The Liberties Learning Initiative is to encourage enterprise learning and the showcasing of the latest
digital initiatives in the Liberties area. The Digital Hub, which is based in the Liberties, is now seen as the place to be for people
working in the digital sector in Ireland and our involvement with the IGDA underlines The Digital Hub’s position as the networking
centre for the digital content industry."
According to Dr Aphra Kerr, a member of the IGDA Ireland committee and research fellow at STeM, (Centre for Society, Technology and Media) at Dublin City University, the launch of IGDA in Ireland sends an important signal to the international game development community:
"This says we have professional game developers working in Ireland and we are going to contribute to both the development
of the profession and the development of games as an art form. Within Ireland it means there is now a professional body that
can be consulted on a range of issues ranging from industrial development policy to education and training. It is a highly
significant moment in the development of the industry in Ireland."
