IGDA Meet April 30th - Report
We started around 8.15pm, Edykajang arrived and we started talking on what IGDA networking session has become, questions posed of where the veterans of the industry went and why they are not attending IGDA meets anymore and etc. That alone reminds me to get in touch with them again, trying to understand their reasons and needs.
As the clock ticks, the audience grew to 9 people.
We were talking about the events line up for the rest of 2010 such as IPCC and Kre8tif.
IPCC :
- It will be launched soon. Very soon.
- Due date for application/submission would be in July.
- I've pointed that most of the update of the previous IPCC grant winners are available at http://simplygames.tumblr.com/
- I've also shared my experience on how IPCC works, in terms of the competition, the grants and the project deliveries and etc.
Kre8itf :
- Planned to end of the year. Probably November/December.
- I would be suggesting to MDeC for separate tracks for games. Just like how GDC handle different fields in game development.
- We need to gather more support from local game companies to grow Kre8tif to be the event to go to for game developers. Just like how the old AGDS was.
- If possible, we could try to invite Jason Della Rocca to attend Kre8tif. With the consultation services that he now runs, it would be good to hear how things are working on the other part of the world.
Next item on the agenda was about IGDA Malaysia’s “Break Into Game Industry”event slated in July/August. I have gathered some response from possible participants who want to break into game industry, but so far, I still haven't gather feedback from companies that wants to be part of this event. Fairuz pointed out that, maybe we can invite the Singapore companies to drop by as well. I've pointed that needs to be given a careful thought and planning as it should not be destructive to our local game industry itself.
After that we had quite a bit of chat on what's happening in the global game industry; iPhone, Android, HTML5 vs Flash and other topics were discussed as well. Meeting ended around 11pm.
