IGDA Meet October 30th - Report

Sorry for the late update,  here's the report for the last meeting. As usual it starts around 8.30pm. Among the attendees are Krishnan from Caveman Solutions, Niko from Internexia, Kyle from LUCT, Hilmy, students from APIIT, LUCT, and MMU.

After the usual self introduction session, Hilmy and myself answered few questions pertaining to IGDA and Malaysia Chapter itself. We go on about IGDA modus operandi and a bit of background on its history. Then we went straight to the agenda of the meeting.

1. IGDA new website and IGDA Malaysia Chapter official website.

- IGDA has roll out the new website as of mid October 2009.

- With this new website, for the first time IGDA Malaysia Chapter will be having an official mailing list. If you want to be part of the mailing list, you can subscribe to it by joining the group. After joining, you can unsubscribe from the mailing list if you find that the mailing list is not within your interest.

- IGDA Malaysia Chapter blog will still run concurrently with the official chapter website until further notice.

- I've made a support request to import all posts dated before 25th October 2009 from the blog to the official website.

2. MSC Malaysia Kre8tif Digital Content Conference

- Overall response was a mix, most of us are interested but the entrance price is a bit too steep.

- The conference are focusing on few fields, games, animation, visual effects and business. Thus it sounds less compelling to a game developer with specific focus/interest.

- Some of the attendees will try to attend it.

3. Sponsorship deal for IGDA Malaysia Chapter.

- The agency that is interested to sponsor our chapter is Contact Singapore.

- There are few options of what we can offer for them, banner space on IGDA Malaysia Chapter blog or/and 5-10 minutes slot for a talk session.

- Contact Singapore intention is to help/assist any Malaysian game developer who might be interested to work in Singapore based game companies, such as LucasFilm Asia and etc.

- The representative from Contact Singapore made a really visible effort to be subtle in their approach, as they don't want to be looked at as poaching Malaysian talents. So, on behalf of IGDA Malaysia, I will try my best to get some response from local game companies and also MDeC. Hopefully, if the deal gone through, it will not step on anyone's toes.

Overall that was mostly the result of the meeting.
