Chapter Meeting: October 2001
This month's Joint meeting of the IGDA South Florida Chapter and the Fort Lauderdale Siggraph chapter featured Caleb "Cro" Owens, Creative Director at Delray Beach, Florida's Five Star Productions Cro told us about some of Five Star's recent CG projects produced at this prestigious South Florida facility. In particular, the Chicago Blackhawks media campaign which utilized Alias/Wavefront's Maya sub-division surfaces and After Effects compositing to produce several animations for in game entertainment. Cro explained all aspects of the production process including initial concept, storyboards, animatic, final rendered imagery, budgetary concerns, production techniques, working with layers and lots of data, SubD techniques, geometry choices ( i.e. nurbs, poly's subd's etc..), and the fun of being a South Florida production house competing for business in the LA market.
After this informative meeting we retired for drinks. Unfortunately, our usual haunt has closed for a few months and we were forced to suffer through wings and beer at Hooters instead. What we go through for the IGDA!!!
