Chapter Meeting: September 2002

Imagine having a program that will allow you to use one base image to derive all other applicable imagery. No more headaches of cropping, resizing, compressing, or any other alterations to create the desired graphic. Sound a little far fetched? Not to Alain Chanais. Alan Chanais has helped pioneer new software that will let you do all of those things, TrueSpectra Image Server Ver.4. This Image serving technology not only simplifies workflow but also reduces costs and is easy to integrate.

Alain Chanais would know about the blurring of the realms of 2d and 3d. In his beginning career, he headed up the Paris Chapter of the ACM Siggraph. During this time he helped create functions that enriched the computer graphics Industry. And they say no good deed goes unrewarded, recently Alain Chanais has been named the President of the ACM Siggraph Worldwide. But that is not all of his contributions of the world of computer graphics. He worked for Alias WaveFront in creating a controversial new program that would revolutionize the industry. That was called the Maya Project. Alain Chanais was the head of creating an integral function in the Maya Project, The Interactive Photorealisitic Renderer. Or better known as IPR.

Alain Chanais has lived a life dedicated to his industry. And it is shown by the multitude of accolades he has accumulated over the years. From his work on the Maya project, his troubleshooting with the special effects on the Judge Dredd Film, to even now in his ambitions in TrueSpectra, he has made his mark in the Computer Graphics Industry.

One fortunate IGDA member was lucky enough to win a full version of the TrueSpecra Image Server in a raffle, while the rest of us grumbled in discontent. The meeting retired to Ole Ole, the usual place for the IGDA members. Yet, that was short lived for Siggraph treated the IGDA members to a night at Sutra, a hip local nightclub.
