Character Animation using computers can be made easier with the knowledge of the principles of animation along with the guidance of good storyboarding. Two Computer Graphics artists from a famous blockbuster film production company are coming to Florida Atlantic University to present topics on classical animation fundamentals and their applications to computer generated character animation.
The admission is FREE to FAU students, faculty, and staff with large discounts to SIGGRAPH, IGDA, educators, and other college students with current I.D., only $10. All others are $25.
Wayne Gilbert , is a Senior Lead Animator with Industrial Light + Magic. During the past six years he has worked on features films such as "E.T." (re-release), "Star Wars: Attack of The Clones", "The Mummy Returns", the PS2 game "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" and numerous commercials. As an independent film maker he is completing a second computer-generated short film with two other story reels ready for production. Mr. Gilbert's presentation will focus on Character Animation Principles from paper to computer. His new independent film, " Let Go ", will also be screened and used as part of the Story Boarding session. Incidentally, the film was created entirely with Alias/Wavefront's Maya 3D animation software. His book "Simplified Drawing For Planning Animation" is based on curriculum developed while teaching in the Classical Animation Program at Sheridan College . His books will be also available to attendees at a discount.
Ron Bublitz is a Creature TD (Technical Director) with the ILM Creature Development Department. He has worked on "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones", "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" and the upcoming" Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines". His presentation will focus on Character rigging for animation.
Demonstrations will be done using a character designed and rigged specifically for teaching character animation. The setup and use of constraints for a character's interaction in its environment and the rigging design method of the characters from "Let Go" will be the focus of Ron's presentation.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn from the masters in the feature film Industry!
