Midlands Chapter - Meet 6
9th December 2004

Decembers meeting was held at a new venue in Leamington Spa, namely the “The Jug and Jester” pub. The venue was very successful, and the layout allowed us to change the format of this event to a more jovial Christmas party. There were a slew of interactive and fun games available to members, and I think that everyone agreed that this was a great success; all had much fun. Some games proved to be a lot more popular than others, there was only one Singstar songster in the party and we know who you are!

We had six party games available on the night.

  1. Singstar.
  2. Pop Idol game with Dance Mat.
  3. Gametrak system and Dark Wind.
  4. Eye Toy Groove.
  5. Fuzion Frenzy.
  6. Donkey Konga - Nintendo's ape-and-konga-drum rhythm game.

Alias very kindly sponsored the bar, so lets raise our glasses in thanks to them. A 50p levy was placed on all drinks, and this proved very popular with the members. Although at one point a barman was heard to say we were not drinking quickly enough!!! The 50p levy did mean that the sponsorship of the bar (helped by our apparent slow drinking) lasted most of the evening. Additionally the new venue has the additional benefit of a late licence, which continues until 12pm, hence there was much drinking during this time. In a responsible fashion of course.

Microsoft kindly donated lots of games, which were given out as prizes at the end of the night. There was a prize for the Singstar Songster (more for bravery than for performance), and one for the Donkey Konga bongo-drumming champion. More games were given out raffle style by drawing business cards from the list of attendees; at IGDA events you only have to turn up to get a chance of winning a prize!

Finally the raffle. This was a huge success, with tickets being sold at a furious rate. This was no doubt because of the fantastic prize on offer, a Nintendo DS with Super Mario 64 game! The prize was very kindly donated by Blitz Games Limited. There was a huge interest in the prize and in the playable version that was on display.

We would like to say thank you for participating in these raffles, the money raised goes back into funding more events like this one.

THANKYOU!!

A big thank you to Andrew Oliver, Emma Morle, Zoë Hurn, Mark Capewell, Chris Southall, Martyn Ash, and Phillip Drinkwater, we could not have done it without your help on the night. Thanks to Kaye Elling for taking some great ambient photos, and Matt Black for setting up the PA. And for EVERYONE who turned up to make the IGDA Midlands Chapter December 9th Meet the success it was.

We hope you all had a wonderful time and would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! See you all in 2005.
