Hey All,
I know it's been a while since you have probably seen any activity on this mailing list, but that will be changing starting now. There was a call to see if someone could take up the mantle and get this group active again, and I answered it. I'll be taking over for Marque Søndergaard, who most of you probably met at GDC 2009. Some of you may even remember me from that SIG gathering as well. We outlined some very good ideas on how we can move the SIG forward and I am hoping there are those of you out there who would like to do the same.
Chief among these were:
- White papers/Best Practices (possibly better served by a wiki right now)
- Ongoing discussion (forums, this mailing list, etc.)
- Thought leadership for the mobile games industry as a whole.
The first one is pretty explanatory, but this will be a team effort.
For the second one, I will be seeding conversations, starting with weekly emails highlighting interesting events from the past week/week ahead. Look for the first of these tomorrow morning. I will also be updating our presence on the new IGDA site (most likely I'll have it up to date tomorrow night).
As for thought leadership, we will be mentioned in the forthcoming IGDA perspectives for June (the monthly IGDA newsletter due out any time now), and I have already committed to doing a webinar on the current state of mobile later next month. If any of you have some current/recent work you would like to have highlighted, please contact me.
I am probably missing some things here, and that's fine. I definitely expect a few of you to chime in, and as the subject implies, I am only acting as an interim chair until which time the SIG gets back on it's feet, formalizes, and has elections to establish permanent leadership. So if you think you might be interested in taking an active role in the direction of this group, this could be your chance.
Looking forward to getting us off the ground and hearing from you on where we can improve.
Cheers,
Nick Smolney
