First Chapter Meeting - Focus On Game Art - 13th June 2008
The event was sponsored by:

Many thanks to them for sponsoring the event!

Well this was our first ever chapter meeting and although the turnout was low, it was great fun. I think everyone learnt and took something away from the meeting. There was attendance from Rockstar Leeds, Chemistry, Sumo Digital, 3rd Dimension Creations and Sheffield Hallam University and Teesside University.

The event was at the Showroom and Workstation cinema in Sheffield. It began with a bit of networking in the cinemas cafe bar where everyone got to know each other, it was a great opportunity for students to talk face to face with developers and find out what working in the industry is actually like, as well as for the developers there to share knowledge and ultimately benefit the industry.

The talks then started off with a ZBrush masterclass from Philip Unger at Rockstar Leeds, thanks to Philip for agreeing to do the talk! He discussed various topics within ZBrush explaining the pipeline he uses between Maya and ZBrush as well as more in depth topics about the brushes in the newest version of ZBrush, re-topology tools and texturing.

This was then followed by a Modo talk from James O'Hare from 3rd Dimension Creations, again many thanks to him for agreeing to talk at the event! This again was a very informative talk which showed how they were using Modo for unwrapping and modelling, as well as how they fitted it into their pipeline with other 3D applications like 3D Studio Max.
The event then continued with further networking after the talks until midnight. At which point the cinema closed and I believe that some of the speakers and attendees ended up at a nightclub.
Anyway feel free to join us next time for a drink, have a good time, and hopefully learn a bit in the process! The next event should be further north around Middlesbrough or Newcastle.
Again thanks for everyone who attended, the speakers, other organisers, Autodesk for sponsoring the event and everyone else that helped make this first chapter meeting possible!
