IGDA Evolves Relationship with CMP/GDC

(This announcement was first emailed to members on December 14th, 2004.)

Dear IGDA Members & Friends,

I want to update everyone on some significant news for 2005: We have ended our management agreement with CMP and we'll be directly running our day-to-day operations as of January 1st, 2005 - as always, under the wise governance of your elected board of directors.

We asked for CMP's help in revitalizing the IGDA five years ago, and they have provided terrific support since. Now that the IGDA has built up definite momentum and has strong community support, we've updated our relationship with CMP to best meet our current needs.

The IGDA will still benefit from the strategic alliance we've always had with CMP and the Game Developers Conference. The IGDA will continue to have a strong presence at the GDC and will proudly present the Game Developers Choice Awards during the conference. We will also continue to have a seat on the GDC Advisory Board and manage the IGDA track to cover industry issues. Of course, the cessation of the management contract with CMP does mean certain member benefits and services will need to change -- specific details to come on that front in the new year...

I am happy to say that I'll be staying with the organization and moving up to take on the role of Executive Director. Rudy Geronimo, who has served us so well as our Community & Operations Manager, will also remain with the association. And, we are excited that we'll have a new staff member starting in January to help drive our mission.

As part of the transition, we are moving to a new headquarters in the historic Flood Building on Market Street in San Francisco. Our new address, as of January 1st will be:

IGDA
870 Market Street, Suite 1181
San Francisco, California
USA 94102-3002
Phone: +1-415-7382137
Fax: +1-415-7382178

As you can see, we are entering our 10th year as an organization with vibrancy and excitement. I personally look forward to expanding our efforts to serve the community and continue to advocate on issues core to game developers.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Meanwhile, let us know how we can better serve you as a member of the IGDA, or if you have any questions or comments regarding these changes.

Regards,

Jason Della Rocca
Executive Director
