Beginning November 1, eligible student members of IGDA may apply for free registration to attend the Game Developers Conference March 20-24, 2001. The online application (at www.igda.org) will focus on the applicant's commitment to the art and craft of game development and his or her support of IGDA's mission. Spread the word! EDUCATION COMMITTEE IGDA's Education Committee, co-chaired by Warren Spector and Doug Church, has approved its charter. The committee plans to move forward to build relationships with universities, develop recommended curricula, and raise awareness of the game development profession. ARCADE ASSOCIATIONS FIGHT BACK An ordinance restricting access to violent or sexually explicit arcade games deemed harmful to minors will take effect September 1st in Indianapolis, Indiana. Arcade game trade associations have filed a lawsuit to obtain a temporary restraining order against the ordinance and are considering a First Amendment challenge to the law. The Independent Games Festival provides a forum for independent game developers to exhibit their work, receive recognition, and meet with commercial publishers. The Festival is soliciting entries from all over the world and will choose fifteen games to be showcased in the IGF Pavilion at the Game Developers Conference March 20-24, 2001. Learn more about the Independent Games Festival and submit your game. Submissions must be received by September 22, 2000. WORK FOR IGDA The IGDA is looking for a full-time Program Manager to work with the board and the game development community on committees, chapters, SIGs, and other member activity. Applicants should be familiar with the game development community, have a basic understanding of the development process, and be passionate about the IGDA's mission. Critical skills include consensus building, advocacy, persistence, diplomacy, enthusiasm, and a great attitude. The position is located in San Francisco, CA.
