MILLER FREEMAN ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COMPUTER GAME DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION (CGDA)
New Executive Director and Board To Be Named As The Two Companies
Merge
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - January 18, 2000 - Miller Freeman,
Inc. today announced that the company has entered into a management partnership
with the Computer Game Developers Association (CGDA). Jennifer Pahlka, Group
Director/Publisher of Interactive Entertainment for Miller Freeman, Inc.
has been named Acting Executive Director of the Association until a new
Executive Director can be named. Elections for the new board are currently
being held and results will be announced in February.
The new partnership will allow the CGDA, the trade association for the worldwide
game development community, to develop and expand its membership base, operations
and developer programs while still continuing to function as an independent,
non-profit organization. The Association will continue to provide benefits
and other services to its members, including discounts to major industry
conferences, insurance for independent developers and information schools
offering degrees in a variety of disciplines relating to game design and
computer animation. In the coming year, Miller Freeman and the CGDA board
of directors will work to set priorities, develop membership and additional
member benefits, build a strong network of local chapters and special interest
groups, and convene committees to address issues pertinent to today’s
game development community. The annual IGDA meeting will be held during
the Game Developers Conference (GDC), March 8-12, 2000 in San Jose, CA,
and all members and prospective members are encouraged to attend.
"The entire Miller Freeman Game Group is very excited to be working
more closely with the CGDA to further serve the game development community,"
said Pahlka. "The CGDA is a group that deserves the attention and resources
necessary to fulfill its mission; with this partnership, the association
is stronger than ever in its commitment to providing valuable assistance
and guidance to developers. We are pleased to lend our resources to help
the association and the game development community grow to new heights."
"Because of Miller Freeman’s extensive reach among game developers,
they are an ideal management partner for the CGDA" stated Alex Jarett,
Chairman of the CGDA. "By bringing its expansive industry knowledge
to the table, Miller Freeman will allow the CGDA to grow, representing the
community the most effective way possible."
