CGDA BECOMES INTERNATIONAL GAME DEVELOPERS ASSOCIATION (IGDA) AND LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE
SAN FRANCISCO, June 26, 2000—The Computer Game Developers Association's Board of Directors today announced the renaming of the non-profit organization to the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). The renaming of the organization will coincide with the launch of the official IGDA website on Monday, June 26, 2000. The site can be viewed at www.igda.org and is dedicated to providing networking, education and business resources to the interactive entertainment development community worldwide. .
"IGDA will play a significant role in servicing the game development community," said Alex Jarett, Chairman, International Game Developers Association. "The new IGDA website will provide a complete resource for the interactive entertainment industry including online forums for committees, special interest groups, and IGDA chapters internationally."
Before its renaming, the CMP Game Media Group began managing the CGDA in early January of this year. The association was created to foster information exchange and communication among industry professionals, both on a local, grass-roots level, as well as on a broader, international scale. Following the induction of the CMP Game Media Group as its new management team, the IGDA created a new name conveying the group's broader, more comprehensive focus on the $11 billion dollar electronic entertainment industry.
