Another Meeting ?!?
Hi,
I don't know whether yes or no all of you are quite busy right now. But perhaps we could schedule a meeting of our chapter. The last one has been long ago and I really don't want to miss the opportunity to meet you again.
Perhaps this time, we could even select a topic to discuss about ?
What do you think ?
Stefan
Hey ! A BBQ is always cool ! I've been on a birthday party last month and they did a BBQ...
I think that you're right about the "minimum people needed" to organize a meeting with a speaker. It was less my idea to have a speaker than to have a topic to speak about.
Last time we met the main topic was the current crisis in game development.
Perhaps next time we could talk about our experience in developing short time development games. I think it would be interesting to compare the development steps for a GBA title to the ones for a low budget game on PC. That's what most (all) of us belgian game developers have experience with.
What do you think ?
Stefan
Stefan,
Sounds good to me...
I hope a couple more people can join in here so we can set up an agenda of topics to discuss.
Recently I have been receiving a couple of emails regarding your original question as well: is there a way and/or how much money can you make with online distribution and what is the best way to deploy from a developer standpoint.
Regards,
Filip
@Stefan : A high end GBA title costs a lot more to develop than a
low budget PC-title. Apart from doing 2D games, the entry price
into GBA development is rather high as you need the develop
engines from scratch..develop tools adapted to the possibilities
/limitations of the GBA...you need musicians with tools dedicated
to music GBA development etc...
From my experience you can only develop low-budget titles
on whatever platform(s) once you have recouped the investment
in engine/tool development by a full-blown/priced title.
That way you can limit your investment to production only
and you can schedule rather well your development.
a+
Kris.

Are these meetings open to newbie-developers like myself ?
It's not that I am completely void of any skills, but I certainly don't have the track-record that most of you guys have.

Stefan,
I agree.
We have been considering setting up a bi-monthly meeting open for everyone who wants to drop by. Even if only a few people show up we can still have a couple of drinks and chat about ongoing projects. For us it is easy to handle this in Gent, but I am afraid this is pretty far away from your place...
Right now the existing IGDA Belgium user base is just too small to setup 'professional' meetings with speakers and the like the way someone has been suggesting. If the bi-monthly small meetings (expecting 5-10 attendees) are working out we could do a more scheduled project and move on from there.
Just to throw one meeting topic: I would really like to organize an IGDA BBQ this summer!

Filip
