David Vronay presentation
I thought the David Vronay presentation last night was very informative in terms of the history of game development. However, it did not touch on any of the current issues related to game development in China, and especially Beijing. His presentation might not be entirely applicable to the China market as well, with outsourcing opportunities and piracy two big issues that take center stage in the market. I do appreciate his presentation style and humor in relating his experiences. All in all, a good presentation but not one which as a current developer, found useful.
Perhaps, for the next official or unofficial meeting, we can have representatives from industry to give everybody a clear view of how currently the industry functions in China.
I suppose we can have a representative from each market segment (mmorpg, casual, console, mobile) or from each development profession (programmers, artists (both cat. further segmented if necessary), online maint., customer service, marketing, bus. dev., etc.)
I think for the IGDA chapter to be successful in Beijing, it will need industry recognition and support in terms of offering speakers, participating in awards, etc. It will also be a great opportunity for participants to find employment, money for their ventures, and also do networking.
Perhaps we can all pool our resources to make the next seminar or presentation geared towards current developers? I appreciate all comments, negative or positive.
