Online Games Mailing List

Just a reminder for those who only post here in the forums. The Online Games SIG also has a discussion list setup which you can join by sending an email to:

What kind of discussions take place over the mailing list?

Theoretically the same types of discussions that could happen here. The stated purpose for the list is for anything related to Online Games.
In the past most of the traffic has been in the form of news postings about things important to this industry, and call for volunteers for the various SIG projects.

What is your preference for using the forums versus a discussion mailing list? There are quite a few differences between the two (push versus pull, single thread versus many threads). Does it make a difference how much activity there is, e.g. if posts are infrequent a mail list is better, and a forum is better for 10+ posts per day?
Which would you rather use? (I realize there is a great deal of selection bias in answers here).
The proliferation of blogs and especially forums have made mailings lists obsolete. Forums are far more efficient. Members can easily browse topics and then see then entire discussion history in one place with a forum. Email discussions involve tracing back through hundreds (or even thousands) of emails to get back to the start of the discussion if you come in part way through.
I was a longtime member of the MUD Dev mailing list. It finally died about 6-8 months ago. Even with its high "signal to noise ratio" it was still often a pain following the discussion and annoying waiting for days to see a reply to a post. Mailing lists had their time and place, but that has passed.
I belong to a cancer mailing list and i have more than 6,000 posts in my inbox. If you get at all behind the discussion on an active list, you fall hopelessly behind. Logging into a forum you haven't visited in awhile trying to get up to speed is so much less stressful. Not surprisingly the cancer list is currently migrating to a forum setup.
If you really want to do the mailing list, perhaps you might look into reviving the MUD Dev list. I'm sure most of us are still subscribed to it.

I also prefer forums to news groups, for the reasons stated by Donmc, and also as it is inclusive of new members like myself and additionally should serve to reduce wheel reinventing.

hello
I need some links of online games in which me and my friend can play even if we are at different PCs. The kind of game that you log in with your mail .The kind of game that has chat and where you can choose to play from a list of logged on players. So you can recognize in that list your friends or people that you know to play only with them.
