Okay, so the heading is pretty lame but I had some ideas to throw out.

I don't know if any of you guys remember me -- there hasn't been a meeting since I've been here so you haven't met me in person. I'm an artist from Montevallo and I've posted to the forum a few times in the past year...

I haven't had the kind of experience I was hoping for in finding students here who were really committed to game development (or New Media) as a profession or career. However, something happened tonight that leads me to believe I might be mistaken. I was in a meeting of the Golden Key society and was discussing the possibility of bringing in New Media speakers to University honors events. I noticed that people began to perk up when I mentioned I wanted to go into game development. I mentioned at that point that there were developers in Alabama that people didn't know about. I saw some eyebrows lift for the first time in the entire meeting...

If I were to start a student chapter, what are the chances that you guys would interact with them? I would be interested in getting together students with both University and technical school backgrounds, and making young talent aware of opportunities that exist inside the South and nearer to home. This could benefit the regular chapter in multiple ways -- both in making new workers aware of your own projects, cultivating new future members, and maybe aiding in (the resurgence of?) the Bham chapter and related events as a whole.

What do you think? I think that something like this might be beneficial if even a handful were interested. I had some other thoughts as well, so, if it sounds interesting, I'd like to start an idea thread about this.
