Hi everyone,

I am posting information in case anyone is thinking of hopping in a minivan with a bunch of gaming friends and zipping over to Michigan to FuturePlay this fall.

FuturePlay 2005 is being held relatively close this year. Brian and the other kind folks over at Michigan State University in East Lansing are hosting the conference at the MSU Student Union. It runs through October 13-15, 2005 and has a lot of features.

For academics we have a call for papers, a poster competition, world reknowned academic speakers such as Henry Jenkins III - MIT, James Paul Gee - Wisconsin Madison, Michael Mateas - Georgia Tech and Brenda Bakker Harger - Carnegie Mellon University.

For Game Designers we have workshops by Marc LeBlanc & Andrew Leker from Mind Control Software, Brenda Brathwaite & Jeb Havens from Cyberlore Studios as well as talks from Ernest Adams, Greg Costikyan, and Brian Robbins.

For Ubergeeks we have a workshop by Virtools and talks from Chris Hecker and Guillaume Provost.

For game generalists we have talks by John Buchanan, Tobi Saulnier and Trevor Fencott.

For budding game developers there are game competitions and exhibitions.

So much to do, so little time to see it, and all relatively close.

I hope this has something of interest to you and saves some of you a longer trip to see a lineup like this.
