Lectures
Hi there. I was just curious about something... I've only been to the last meeting (the one with Katherine speaking) and I was wondering if this is generally how these meetings go; listening to a guest speaker give a lecture.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not complaining... As primarily a writer/designer when it comes to game development, I found Katherine's lecture somewhat interesting, since telling a story and relating to the player are some of my main purposes.
I'm just wondering if that's basically how these meetings go...

Sorry you couldn't make it to the last meeting Kain - perhaps you can arrange a ride through the forum? Not all meetings in the past have been lecture style but the last two have. After a presentation people are encouraged to have discussion on the topic of the evening and usually people socialize for an hour or two after. I hope you can make the next meeting!

Darn, I wish someone had answered this one... I had to miss yesterday's meeting because I couldn't convince my friend it would be worth his while to go with me...
Though I have my license, I don't have a vehicle, and I had talked my friend into going with me to the August meeting, both as a ride, and as moral support (I'm rather shy and feel a bit uneasy around groups of people I don't know, especially in unfamiliar territory.)
But while I'm an independant game developer, my friend is just a gamer, and he felt like being back in school listening to the lecture. I guess from the description of past meetings, he expected something a bit more exciting or interactive. I actually missed out on hanging around after the meeting because he was falling asleep and wanted to split as soon as the Q&A session was over.
Ah well, I had hoped if I could have convinced him the meetings were more than just lectures, he may continue going with me. Maybe there's hope for next month...
