Thirty days and no posts on QOL! I wanted to share some half-news/maybe-news/oh-what-the-hell-I'll-just-throw-it-out-there-news.

Matt Sakey and I are waiting... and waiting... for the print publication of our QOL article which has been delayed for about 3 months now. The article is titled "DEVELOPING WHAT YOU KNOW: CRUNCH AND PISS-POOR QUALITY OF LIFE; Part 1: Politicians, Crucifixions, and Who Won't Fix It." There is a slight possibility we'll shorten the title if there is an opportunity to do another polish (#22) before print.

If any of you are interested in reading it, please feel free to e-mail me at

For part 2, we're looking for ex-devs who left the industry in whole or in part due to poor QOL. If your new year's resolution is to connect with long lost colleagues, please let them know about this series. We don't want to talk about the former employer so much as the effects on family, toll on health and wellness, etc. The dream is for family members to talk as well, especially wives.

I'd like to thank Ernest Adams, Jay King, Dan Paladin, Todd Fay, Darius Kazemi, Dan Irish, and Evan Robinson for their contributions. I hope I haven't missed anybody!

Tom Allen
