Urban Electronic Student Chapter Organization
Well I have ALOT of information to share and a HUGE inquiry so here it goes:
I know that the IGDA still doesn't have their student chapters set up exactly yet, and from what I remember if a student run organization wants to work with the igda they should just work along side the chapter that is in there state. In my case that would be Michigan South (here). I know I haven't attended the meetings in awhile (actually I've only been to one) but I've stayed pretty active in the video game world. I've even gone so far as to start my own non-profit organization which was an idea that I've been putting together since last year. The organization is currently going through the finalizing stages of being recognized as a non-profit and I'm still setting up its structure though I have already held meetings with my organizing committee, I hope to have my open house sometime in February. I have created my constitution and have followed most of the steps in the Student Chapter Reference Manual. The organization is primarily for teenagers, those who are interested in learning more about the video game industry and video game development. This is achieved by discussing current video game issues, (i.e. the game law that's hit Michigan, and the drop of video game sales etc..) and by of course creating video games. I aspire to add a type of more "urbanized" twist to the videogame development, when i say urbanized I don't mean exactly...whatever we see as urbanization today (for example GTA:San Andreas). When i say "urbanized" it means for the games to be really innovative.
Ok, now that you have the rundown of my organization that is called Urban Electronics Game Development Association (Urban Electronics for short) Here are my questions:
Do you feel I should be a speaker at Creative Congress of Michigan to discuss this teenage run and teenage oriented organization?
Do you think it would benefit Urban Electronics to work under the IGDA Chapter of Michigan, and to be a type Student Organization of the IGDA (I know that being a student chapter gets benefits on certain conferences and event that happen with the IGDA)
Finally, would IGDA Michigan South accept such an organization (be a type of definite sponsor) and/or possibly be willing to donate funds (or laptops)?
Wow, I know that was a long read and if you reached this part thanks for reading it all and adding ur input, it is greatly appreciated. And if anyone would like anymore information on Urban Electronics just e-mail, there is a website that is going to be put up soon.
