Looking to the future
Hi everyone,
As you may know, we recently revived our local chapter after a fairly long haitus. Currently we are in the process of planning the next several meetings and events. We have also improved the website and are trying to keep it updated as often as possible.
In our effort to connect with our community, I would like to know what it is you want to see from our chapter. What type of content would you like to see on the website? How can we best represent you as a whole? What types of events would you like to see? Topics? Etc.
Please use this thread as way to put your thoughts out there.
Thanks,
IGDA Vancouver Chapter Team
When I was working in the UK we'd have some informal socials just in a pub or a restaurant. So depending on what needs to be accomplished, that might be alright. That would probably work out for a little meet and greet.
Agreed. Toronto has built a great chapter around informal regular monthly pub nights, and maybe two or three "events" a year. And there is a tiny industry there. I was stunned when I moved here and found the chapter so inactive.
Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. You would figure with the hundreds upon hundreds of people in Vancouver working in games, there might be a bit more interest.
I really enjoyed the panel discussion that happened in September, and am looking forward to another one. I think a meet and greet night would help get the ball rolling, I personally don't know many Vancouver IGDA Members and am hoping to meet more.
I missed the Sept event because I watch this forum more than the chapter page. Not posting an event annoucement here was an annoying oversight. IMO anything announced on the home page should also be announced here.
I also asked to be put on any mailing list about two years ago, and have never received a single email. I even volunteered to help at one point, in response to a request for volunteers, and never received a reply.
The Van chapter is pretty bad. On the bright side, at this point just about anything would be an improvement.

Hi everyone,
Was planning for a visit to Vancouver and a meetup with the Vancouver chapter. Seems pretty dead unfortunately. I hope things will be picking up soon. May I know who the IGDA representative for Vancouver is?
Thanks! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Thanks for dropping by

I think that the last panel meeting you held was a good start, and I would definitely like to see more of those (I know one is in the works for the near future).
Possibly some type of social open-house type event where members can show up and spend some time getting to know one another. Maybe this could be held in a boardroom at one of the schools. I don't know what could be done in regards to refreshments...perhaps if the Art Institute offered space, the chef side of the school could provide catering and members could chip in to help with costs? It would be good practice for the students.
