New Chapter Co-Ordinator
Lately due to various personal issues I have been unable to participate in the community as much as needed & I feel that it has suffered due to that.
The long of the short of it is that I am stepping down as the chapter co-ordinator.
Anyone that is interested in taking on the postion please post here.

The primary responsiblity is to cordinated local events ( the meetings) for the local game developer community. The coordinator can look to the local companies for support in planning the meetins. What kind of meeting to hold etc. teh focus should be ont he the pros & semi pros. Students can actually set up student chapters. This works weell in larger development centres but here I have found it better to more inclusive. After the meeting you should prepare a report and post it at the website. Once it is posted you update the chapter status showing the new meeting. It is recommended to have at least 1 meeting per quarter.
As well you would be the moderator for the calgary forum.
The chapter co-ordinator is concidered a grass roots rep for the developers & not a member of the IGDA executive. As such you can't open accounts, receive funds or make statements on behalf of the IGDA. You can make requests for funding from the IGDA to help pay for meeting spaces etc.
All toll you might spend 2/3 hrs tops a month geting things together

Might I suggest we set a date by which anyone interested in the position needs to volunteer by?
Then perhaps assuming there’s more than one person interested we have a vote of some kind.
I’d hate for this to dissolve into a gong show (see last months meeting) so Shannon as your final duty why don’t you set a date?
I can’t imagine anyone’s in a big rush being that Christmas is right around the corner.
If we could have this figured out by early January I think that would be best.

In that time please post your interest, & what your plans/views would be as the co-ordiantor. Then Community can then vote on who they would like to take over
Maybe we should have an actual meeting where the interested parties can have a 5 miniute Q&A with the chapter members, followed by a anonymous ballot.

I agree with all of you guys and i am also very excited for this. I am limited with time lately, but i would also like to try be a part of this. Since i represented Calgary this year at the IGDA meetings in San Jose during the GDC on behalf of Shannon, i learned alot of tricks from successful chapters around the world including something we had touched on a bit when i got back from the trip which seems to work for most chapters.
Instead of a chapter having just one co-ordinator, it might be worthwhile looking into having perhaps one main co-ordinator but also a few people to support that one person or even a team or two co-ordinators, so if one is busy, they other can take over etc.
Personally i was planning to represent Calgary again this year for the IGDA unless Shannon was planning on going.. but i guess we can discuss all this during the next meeting, which i am looking forward to.

I guess I'll take the initiative and say that we're meeting on Tuesday Jan 9 at 6:00 pm
Place: 3553 31 St NW, Calgary Technologies/Alastair Ross Technology Centre. Doors will be locked, so call me at 399-9501 to open them.
Each member interested in the position will have 5 minutes to make their pitch. After all the pitches are done, we can have a 30 min Q&A with all the interested parties.
Afterwards, we'll do the anonymous ballot. The person with the most votes becomes the chapter coordinator. At that point, they can decide on the association structure. (ie. whether more people need to be involved, etc.)

Is it possible for in the future to either switch up the location of these meetings or have them more central....Or a bit later like 7pm...leaving work at 5 pm to get there for 6 during rush hour is going to be insane....hate to be a pain I just cant get off early for a meeting.

Hey, Is it too late for me to get in on this meeting... I don't think I am willing to be the Co-Ordinator but I would like to support this chapter in a lesser role. Anyhoo, If not just let me know when I get there.. :P

Can someone confirm the time, is it going to be 6 or the suggested new time of 7pm.
Also, I checked the weather, and its supposed to be getting colder wednesday. brrr. They didn't say anything about snowfall, so hopefully the roads will be ok.
So in regards to the roads there are AFWUL I drove in from chestmere this morning and it was a complete white out they are advising people not to drive and its only gonna get worse as the day goes on........Is this meting still going to happen?
I was wondering the same thing as Jen, so I tried calling Jon to confirm the meeting but I wasn't able to get a hold of him. I will keep trying and if i find out something soon I will post it here.
Personally, I don't mind having the meeting tonight, but i can understand that the weather could get much worse and it might be a problem for some people to make it and for those who try to come to make it in time for 6:00.
On top of everything else, i believe cancelling the meeting in such short notice might be a problem since perhaps some of the people who were planning to attend, may not be able to check this forum in time and show up anyway.
I will leave it up to you guys to collectively decide, i am good either way.
PS: A small bonus to having this meeting sometime next week instead would be the fact that the results to The Great Canadian Video Game Competition would have been unveiled by then and the companies that entered could perhaps do a post mortem on their submissions and share thoughts on why they did or did not make it in the competition. Just a thought.

Sounds like most of the people can make it now, so we will still be having the meeting. I have to be there regardless - there's a charge if we book a boardroom and don't use it.
I know it's Calgary - weather could change at any time...so if there aren't enough people, maybe we'll just end up playing ps3 or something.

What would you say is the full list of responsibilities for chapter coordinator?
