How respected is UBC's computer sceince program?
It seems odd considering the size of Vancouver's game industry that this place isn't teaming with activity. Hopefully there are still a few members how browse the forums occasionally.
Currently I'm a high school student in grade 10 living in the greater Vancouver region and have been planning on going into software and game development industry. While I have strong math skills and have been picking up a bit of C++ in my spare time but I've always had a passion for design. I've been looking around at a few different programs at various schools and was trying to try to get a more informed opinion.
Currently my number one choice is taking a bachelor of science with computer science major and trying to get into the co-op work placement option. This would let me continue to properly develop programing skills so that I'd have what I need to work on other projects to populate a portfolio and still be able to take some diversifying electives like physics and psychology. The co-op program also would be very nice on a resume if I could nag a spot working in a dev studio and possibly even get credited on a shipped title before graduating.
I was just wondering if my perspective path seems sound from the point of view of someone within the industry.
