Seattle Sputnik
Some of you are asking me about the Seattle Sputnik IGDA, and I wanted to make sure you all knew that I passed the torch on to two new coordinators last April. (yeah!) Though I was still sending out the newsletter for them until September and we have continued to host a few of the meetings here at DigiPen, I haven't been your coordinator for about 8 months. Please continue to ask me questions, but you're better served asking Jay and Jason directly!
As much as I enjoyed hosting the meetings, after 5 years it was too much work every month to organize speakers, find a location (often DigiPen since it's FREE and, well, convenient for me!) and get the newsletter out. Jay and Jason (they're on the website) want to refocus the group and meetings to satisfy more of your needs, but they are still new to the process.
If you're not aware, no one in the local IGDA group is paid, nor are there any benefits such as discounts for IGDA membership, tix to GDC or anything - it's strictly volunteer. And it's a lot of work to do every month to get speakers, organize them, find a location and get the newsletter out...!
Watch the sputnik website for postings - if the newsletter doesn't go out, often there will be message on the site. If you don't get either, you have to assume that the meeting was cancelled.
Please participate with Jay and Jason to your fullest to make the chapter what YOU want it to be. If you don't let us (them) know what you want, you don't get what you want.
I'll probably see you at the next meeting!
Jen
